Sandnes - Sandnes 51 km
Elevation gain: +780m
Today’s ride takes us on a beautiful loop through Sandnes Municipality, combining quiet country roads, fjord views and a few rewarding climbs.
We leave Sandnes and head into the countryside, where the roads become quieter and the landscape gently rises and falls. Along the way, the fjord is never far away, offering spectacular views across the water and towards the entrance to Lysefjorden. On a clear day, you may even catch a glimpse of the famous Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) in the distance.
As we continue towards Høle, the terrain becomes a little more challenging, giving us the chance to test our climbing legs. The climb continues towards the top of Seldalsbakken, where the effort is rewarded with beautiful views before we turn the tables and enjoy a well-deserved descent.
From here, the route winds its way through the countryside towards Sviland before gradually bringing us back to Sandnes. It is a great day to experience the contrasts of the region — from fjords and hills to open farmland and the town itself.
Back in Sandnes, the afternoon and evening are yours to enjoy. Take some time to explore the streets, discover the local shops and cafés, or perhaps do a little shopping before relaxing after a rewarding day in the saddle.
Sandnes - Bryne 58 km
Elevation gain: +588m / -598m
Leaving Kronen Gård behind, we head out from Sandnes and into the beautiful countryside of Jæren. The route takes us along quiet, charming country roads, mixed with sections of dedicated cycle paths, giving us plenty of opportunities to enjoy the landscape at a relaxed pace.
Along the way, we pass Figgjo, home to one of Norway’s oldest porcelain factories, before continuing towards Undheim. Here, we are close to Knudaheio, the former summer home of one of Norway’s most celebrated writers, Arne Garborg.
As we continue across the open landscape of Jæren, the impressive wind turbines become part of the scenery. Then, at the highest point of the ride, the landscape opens up and we catch our first magnificent view of the North Sea.
The tour takes us through small villages and rural communities surrounded by farms. Jæren is one of Norway’s most important agricultural regions and is often referred to as the country’s food basket. The wide, open landscape, fertile farmland and ever-changing views make this a truly Norwegian cycling experience.
We finish our ride in Bryne, the hometown of Norwegian football star Erling Braut Haaland. And if you stop for a coffee or a chat with the locals, you might just discover that you are talking to someone who is related to him!
Bryne - Sola 56 km
Elevation gain: +354 / -377m
We leave Bryne, the hometown of Erling Haaland, and set our course towards the coast. And on the way, we simply have to make a stop at Hå Old Church and its historic churchyard — where, if we are lucky, we might even enjoy a cup of coffee and take a moment to soak up the atmosphere.
From here, the landscape opens up as we continue along the coast, with the magnificent beaches of Jæren beside us. The sea, dunes and wide-open horizons create a spectacular backdrop for the ride, while the route once again takes us through the rich agricultural landscape that makes Jæren one of Norway’s most important food-producing regions.
We make a small detour to Sele, a beautiful coastal area with its own royal connection. King Harald V has often visited the area to fish for salmon, adding another little piece of local history to our journey.
From Sele onwards, the beaches and the North Sea stay with us for much of the ride. Finally, we arrive at our hotel right by the famous Sola Beach — the perfect place to end another day of cycling, with the sound of the sea just outside.
Sola - Stavanger 56 km
Elevation gain: +450 / -444m
Today, we leave the open beaches and farmland behind and make our way towards Stavanger, with a day filled with history, culture and some of the region’s most iconic sights.
We begin close to our hotel with a short visit to Sola Ruinkirke, the atmospheric remains of a medieval church with a history dating back centuries. From here, we continue towards Risavika and Tananger, an important part of the region’s maritime and energy history and closely connected to Stavanger’s oil and gas industry.
Our route takes us along a mixture of quiet roads and dedicated cycle paths as we make our way towards Vistehola, one of Norway’s oldest known Stone Age settlements. We then continue to Tungenes Lighthouse, standing at the northern tip of the Stavanger peninsula, where the land meets the open North Sea.
From Tungenes, the character of the ride gradually changes. We leave the peaceful countryside, farms and coastal landscapes behind and enter the more urban surroundings of Stavanger.
One of the highlights of the day is Hafrsfjord, where Norwegian history tells us that King Harald Fairhair gathered the country under one kingdom. Nearby, we pass Swords in Rock (Sverd i fjell), the impressive monument commemorating the historic Battle of Hafrsfjord.
For the final stretch, we follow the cycle highway towards Stavanger city centre. After several days of exploring the countryside, coast and cultural heritage of Jæren and the Stavanger region, we arrive in the heart of the city.
We check in at the Victoria Hotel, where a well-deserved dinner awaits. And with Stavanger city centre right outside the door, the evening is yours to explore — whether you want to discover the charming old streets, enjoy a drink by the harbour or simply relax after a memorable day on the bike.
The airport shuttle bus runs every 20 min from different locations in and around the city center if you want to leave earlier or later.
The yellow Swiss villa, hidden behind the majestic 1907 weeping beech tree, emerges as a brilliant sight as you drive into the courtyard. Here, amidst the beautiful cultural landscape and protective beech trees, lies our historical gem, just a 5-minute journey from Sandnes city center and 15 minutes from Sola Airport and Stavanger city center.
Rich in history, Kronen Gaard’s main house was built in 1898 by a timber dealer named Gabriel Block Watne.
