Bryne - Egersund / Egersund - Bryne

From Bryne, the inland tour heads toward Fotland, where you can visit the old mill by Fotlandsfossen, Jæren’s largest waterfall. Here, a restored building hosts art and craft exhibitions. The route continues toward Undheim, with an optional loop around Lake Melsvatnet for a refreshing swim. Near Lake Sjelsevatnet, visit Woodling, a local clothing manufacturer known for its sustainable, nature-inspired designs.

In Undheim, stop by Smiegarden’s cultural center and guesthouse, where the 100-year-old blacksmith's workshop, Undheimssmia, is preserved. For those interested, a short hike leads to Knudaheio, where Arne Garborg’s summer cabin stands just as it did in 1909, with sweeping views of Jæren from the nearby stone bust of the writer.

From Undheim, the trip continues to Karlsbu, where you can rest or have lunch at Karlsbu Café. Heading toward Varhaug, you’ll enjoy stunning coastal views. A detour from Karlsbu takes you to Holmavatn and on to Synesvarden, a relaxed hike suitable for most, or further to Steinkjerringa, a stone statue in the highlands.

Just before Varhaug, stop at Ystepikene for locally crafted cheeses and farm goods. You can then continue to Varhaug’s seaside, visiting the old cemetery, or take a shorter route to Vigrestad, where you’ll find shops and cafés. Two route options from Vigrestad include cycling to Kvassheim Lighthouse via Brusand or following the inland path through Haugstadskogen, with a recommended stop at Brusand Beach.

From Brusand, the route leads to Sirevåg and Sirevåg Hotel, then on to Vedafjellet, where history buffs can explore WWII fortifications. The journey continues south to Ogna along the Vestlandeske Hovedveg, with a pause to cross Ognaelva, a stop at Hølland farm for flowers, and Tvitjørnhytta, an open-to-all day cabin amid Hegrestadfjellet’s rolling hills. Following the scenic descent toward Hellvik, the route proceeds to Egersund along the historic Jærbanen railway route.

Once in Egersund, guests are warmly welcomed at the Grand Hotel Egersund, ideal for resting or exploring the quaint city center. After a fulfilling day, a delicious dinner and cozy bed await those who stay at Grand Hotel Egersund.

This route is optional to ride from both Bryne and Egersund.
