Day 2 – Small villages

Sandnes - Årdal 92km

Height meters: + 1 343 / - 1341

Loading luggage into the support vehicle and departure from the hotel after breakfast. The time is determined based on the ferry departure from Lauvik. We ride the approx. 20km long stage to Lauvik, which runs over slightly hilly terrain on roads with little traffic, and which will give us a taste of what awaits us later on the trip.

We take the ferry across the Høgsfjord to Oanes and climb on the bikes to start the stage towards Årdal. We cycle along the Hesten nature reserve on the old main road between Forsand and Jørpeland. At Jørpeland we take a small detour to look at the sun mirror also called the "Norwegian Stonhenge". At Solbakk, we turn off the main road and cycle over the height to Bjørheimsbygd. The trip continues along Tysdalsvatnet and Ryfylkevegen before we arrive in Årdal where we will stay at the charming country house Høyland gård.

Day 4 – Norway in miniature

Sauda - Sand 115km

Height meters: + 2 334 / - 2 324

We leave Sauda and start the ascent to Røldalsfjellet. This road can be found on many bucket lists and you will easily understand why after you have been there. We are going up to almost 1,000m above sea level, which is the top of the mountain, before we roll down towards Røldal. The trip continues along Røldalsvatnet through easy terrain in Brattlandsdalen before we reach Nesflaten. Between Nesflaten and Suldal there are many tunnels. Most of these tunnels are between 150 - 500m and are relatively quick to cycle through. The longest tunnel is approx. 2200m, there are also a couple of shorter tunnels of approx. 1000m. Safety is very important on our tours so details and information will be given to all participants about how to cycle in tunnels. NBE's accompanying car will also be of assistance for our safety when we cycle in tunnels.

When we eventually arrive at Sand, we park the bikes and check in at Ryfylke Fjordhotell. Here you can relax in the sauna located down by the beach or you can take part in alternative activities such as:

Salmon safari in Suldalslågen where you float in the river with a wetsuit and snorkel, tour of Mo salmon farm and farm brewery or visit to Norway's first salmon studio. Subject to opening hours and availability.

We cycle along the Hjelmelandsfjorden to Nesvik and take the ferry to Hjelmeland. When we get to Hjelmeland, we make a stop at Apal Sideri where we get a tour and taste samples from their production.

We continue the trip in the hilly terrain past Årdal, where we spent our first night on the tour and a few kilometers after Årdal, we leave Rv 13 and heads over Lyngsheia to Songesand. Here we board the fast boat that will take us to Forsand where we will spend the night at Gøysa gaard.

The yellow Swiss villa, hidden behind the majestic 1907 weeping beech tree, emerges as a brilliant sight as you drive into the courtyard. Here, amidst the beautiful cultural landscape and protective beech trees, lies our historical gem, just a 5-minute journey from Sandnes city center and 15 minutes from Sola Airport and Stavanger city center.

Rich in history, Kronen Gaard’s main house was built in 1898 by a timber dealer named Gabriel Block Watne. Back then, the family used it as a summer residence, and it quickly became a place where family and friends gathered. Today, Kronen Gaard Hotell offers elegant, traditional accommodation in the beautiful countryside of Sandnes. The charm of its past has been preserved.
